"One Life to Live" est un soap-opera qui est diffusé sur ABC depuis le 15 Juillet 1968.
La série durait au départ trente minutes jusqu'à ce qu'elle fut étendue à 45 en 1976 et à une heure en 1978. "One Life to Live" a été créé par Agnes Nixon, qui est responsable également de la création de "All My Children" et qui a servi de head writer pour "Another World" ou "The Guiding Light".
Le titre de la série aurait dû être "Between Heaven and Hell" (entre le paradis et l'enfer) mais les sponsors voulaient quelque chose de moins controversé. Bien que le nom changea, le générique de départ symbolisait les flammes de l'enfer!
Les premiers sponsors étaient Colgate et Palmolive qui sponsorisaient aussi "The Doctors". ABC acheta la série à Agnes Nixon en Décembre 1974 ainsi que toutes les créations de celle-ci (Creative Horizons Inc.).
